About this site
National Park Fees is an independent calculator for people planning a trip through US national parks, and in particular for visitors from abroad, who since 2026 pay a different price. It is not affiliated with the National Park Service, the Department of the Interior or any government agency.
Where the numbers come from
- Entrance fees, park by park: the official NPS Data API (
feespassesandparksendpoints), read at every build of the site. Last read: September 30, 2026. 130 sites are kept: every NPS site that charges an entrance or nonresident fee, and every national park (39 of them charge a fee). - Pass prices and coverage: NPS Entrance Passes (updated January 5, 2026).
- Nonresident fee: NPS Nonresident Fees FAQ (updated July 15, 2026) and the API fee type "Nonresident". The two lists of parks are compared on every build.
- Timed entry: each park’s own nps.gov page, read by hand on September 30, 2026 (see reservations).
- Tribal parks: Navajo Nation Parks & Recreation.
What the calculator assumes
- One visit per park, within the validity of the standard pass (7 days at most parks). When a park lists both a 1-day and a 7-day pass, the 7-day price is used.
- One private vehicle for the whole group, or up to two motorcycles.
- Children under 16 pay no per-person fee and no nonresident fee. The nonresident rule says so explicitly; for per-person entrance fees, most park fee descriptions say so (Yosemite: "People 15 years and younger are free").
- Where a park lists no fee for the way you arrive (a vehicle fee only, for example), the calculator falls back to what is listed and flags it.
- Seasonal prices follow the month you choose (mid-month date).
- Reservation, camping, tour and parking fees are not included.
The calculation engine is plain TypeScript, separate from the page, with unit tests that reproduce the NPS examples (for instance, $35 + 2 × $100 = $235 for a nonresident couple driving into Yosemite).
Updates
The fee data is refreshed from the NPS API every time the site is rebuilt. Fee changes announced by NPS (usually for January 1) and each park’s reservation system for the next season are checked by hand.
